Read anything punk in a while?

January 26, 2015

I am reading Viv Albertine’s memoir, Clothes, Clothes, Clothes. Music, Music, Music. Boys, Boys, Boys. I realized how important and relevant her story is about half way through. It’s a story of the working class, a lost generation, creative anxiety and gutsy feminism all wrapped up in punk. “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” by The Slits, […]

Bhindi Bhagee

January 19, 2014

This song gives me goose bumps for its folky-electric power sound and lyrics. World music gone wild. Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros live at The 100 Club performing “Bhindi Bhagee” from the Global a Go-Go LP. Read this Punk Magazine interview with Strummer by Judy McGuire.

August 27, 2012

To continue my end of summer New York City drama, here is “Let’s Get Rid of New York” by the Randoms. This is the b-side of the 1977 single “ABCD” on Dangerhouse Records. LA punk underrated. Sleeve and vinyl image courtesy of break my face.

You decide. “White Mice” was released in 1979 on Mode Records.

I am giving a shout to a couple of my fave women music photographers. Here are links to their sites – the early punk galleries. Ebet Roberts is a New York transplant from Memphis. She shot punk rock CBGB like no one else. Dead Boys at CBGB, 1977 © Ebet Roberts Janette Beckman hails from London and her early […]

I Hate the Rich – The Dils

April 20, 2012

A freely associated response to my last post. Here is “I Hate the Rich” by The Dils. It was originally released in 1977 on What? Records.  I think this version is from a 1980 live recording.  “I Hate The Rich” 7 inch sleeve – What? Records, 1977 For more punk images from the west coast […]
